Epps' Extra Inning Heroics Lead #14 Softball To 3-2 Win Over Lynn On Friday Night

BOCA RATON, Fla.Hope Epps laced a bases loaded hit up the middle to drive in what proved to be the winning run as #14 Saint Leo University softball earned an eight-inning victory in the series opener at Lynn on Friday night. The Lions defeated the Fighting Knights 3-2 to improve to 35-10 on the season and 18-7 in the SSC. Lynn falls to 20-25 on the season and 6-19 in the SSC.

In the circle, junior Tierney Hocquard pitched an eight-inning complete game, allowing two runs on four hits while striking out seven batters. Five Lions recorded a hit on Friday night. Senior outfielder Hope Epps came up clutch with one hit and the game-winning RBI in extra innings.


#14 Saint Leo 3, Lynn 2 (8 innings)
  • Saint Leo opened the scoring in the first inning, with junior Briana Neal scoring on a wild pitch.

  • The Fighting Knights reached their first base runner in the fourth inning after Hocquard retired the first nine batters of the game. They then scored the runner on a sacrifice bunt after a series of stolen bases.

  • Lynn took a 2-1 lead in the fifth inning with a two-out RBI single.

  • With Saint Leo down to its last out, Antioco reached on a fielding error that scored junior Haleigh Thomas to tie the game at two.

  • Hocquard struck out two batters in the seventh inning to send the game to extra innings.

  • The Lions quickly loaded the bases in the top of the eighth inning. Epps singled up the middle to score senior Caroline Barwick to retake the lead.

  • Hocquard once again kept the Lynn bats quiet as she finished off her tenth complete game and twelfth win of the season.

Saint Leo and Lynn returns to the diamond on Saturday afternoon for a doubleheader to conclude the conference series against. First pitch of game one is scheduled for 3 p.m.
