Baseball Dominates Bloomfield in Doubleheader Shutout Sweep

SAINT LEO, Fla. – The Saint Leo baseball team dominated both games of a Saturday doubleheader against Bloomfield, taking game one with a commanding 27-0 victory before completing the sweep with a 10-0 shutout in non-conference action at Thomas B. Southard Stadium.

Game One: Saint Leo 27, Bloomfield 0

The Lions wasted no time putting runs on the board, scoring two in the first inning before breaking the game open with a four-run third and an 18-run explosion in the fifth. Senior Caleb Adams fueled the offense with a two-hit performance, including a solo home run in the opening frame. Junior Adrian Selles delivered the biggest pop of the day, launching a three-run jack in the fifth.

Saint Leo capitalized on Bloomfield's mistakes, drawing 19 walks and stealing seven bases, while every starter either scored or drove in a run. The Bears also broke the NCAA single-game record for most wild pitches in a game with 12 while the previous record was 10.

On the mound, graduate student Dawson Turner tossed five shutout innings, allowing just three hits while striking out three. Relievers graduate student Drew Rudsinski and freshman Drew Stillwell combined for two perfect innings to seal the dominant victory.

Game Two: Saint Leo 10, Bloomfield 0

The Lions kept their momentum rolling in the nightcap, striking for four runs in the second inning and never looking back. Junior Amai Rivera-Martinez went a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate with an RBI double, while junior Ryan Crivello added a run-scoring double in the sixth.

Saint Leo continued to apply pressure with aggressive baserunning, swiping seven stolen bases in the contest.

On the mound, graduate student Tyler Mecchella was dominant, striking out eight over four shutout innings. Senior Aedan Walter was just as effective in relief, retiring all nine batters he faced while striking out six to complete the shutout and collecting the win.

With the doubleheader sweep, Saint Leo improves to 8-12 on the season. The Lions return to action next weekend as they host American International in non-conference play on Thursday, March 13 at 6 p.m.
