SAINT LEO, Fla. – After scoring 16 runs within the first five innings, the Saint Leo baseball team collected a 16-1 victory in the series-opener against Bloomfield on Friday night in non-conference action.
The Lions stream rolled the Bears in the first as they tallied eight runs as sophomore
Eli Vickers and senior
Caleb Adams each knocked in a run followed by Adams scoring on a wild pitch. Senior
Ryan Robinson singled through the right side as junior
Dylan Mass crossed home plate before Robinson scored on a throwing error by Bloomfield. Junior
Adrian Selles notched an RBI-single to left center before he scored on a throwing error by the Bears. Junior
Thomas DeBrower capped off the first inning explosion with a sacrifice-fly to right field as junior
Roberto Odor reached home, 8-0.
While Bloomfield scored a run in the top of the second, the Green and Gold answered with a run in the third as Odor scored on a wild pitch. The Lions added six more runs in the fifth inning as Odor stole home followed by junior
Ryan Crivello registering an RBI-double to score DeBrower. Crivello eventually crossed home plate on a wild pitch before Mass launched an RBI-triple and then scored on a passed ball. Selles finished the scoring outburst for the Lions with a two-run homer.
Every batter in the Saint Leo lineup posted a hit as Vickers, Adams, Mass, and Selles each recorded a pair of hits. On the mound, graduate student
Kyle Scrape collected the win as he pitched 6.0 innings and struck out nine batters while only surrendering one run (earned) on two hits. In relief, sophomore
Jake Rychter pitched 1.0 innings and tallied a pair of strikeouts on 10 pitches.
Saint Leo returns to action tomorrow, Saturday, March 8 as it concludes its series versus Bloomfield with a doubleheader, starting at 1 p.m.
