MIAMI SHORES, Fla. – The Saint Leo baseball team lost both games of its doubleheader to conclude the three-game series at Barry on Saturday afternoon in Sunshine State Conference (SSC) action.
Game #1: Barry 9, Saint Leo 8
The Lions were clicking on all cylinders as they jumped out to an 8-0 lead. Junior
Dylan Mass singled to the shortstop as classmate
Thomas DeBrower crossed home plate. Senior
Dylan McDonald drove in a pair of runs with a single up the middle before senior
Caleb Adams scored on a balk. In the second, Mass grounded out to second base, however, he batted in DeBrower once again. Sophomore
Eli Vickers walked with the bases loaded followed by Adams blasting a two-homer in the fourth. However, the Bucs scored nine consecutive runs while holding the Green and Gold scoreless for the remainder of the game.
On the mound, senior
Dawson Turner started and pitched 4.0 innings while allowing four runs (all earned) on four hits with one strikeout. In relief, senior
Kaelan Racculia posted 3.0 innings of work while surrendering four runs (none earned) on two hits.
Game #2: Barry 8, Saint Leo 3
Barry claimed an early 1-0 lead after the first before junior
Ryan Crivello tied the game with an RBI-single in the third. The Bucs scored five unanswered runs to lead by a 6-1 margin at the end of the fifth. In the sixth, McDonald tallied a two-run double to left center. Barry added two runs in the sixth followed by Vickers recording a sacrifice fly to center field in the ninth, 8-3.
Junior
Tyler Mecchella started and pitched 5.0 innings with five strikeouts in addition to allowing six runs (five earned) on eight hits.
The Lions return to action on Tuesday, March 18 as it faces SSC opponent Florida Southern in a non-conference bout, starting at 6 p.m.
