SAINT LEO, Fla. – Maddie Antioco had a game-best three hits as the Saint Leo University softball team pushed its win streak to 12 with a series opening run-rule victory over #22 Barry University on Friday evening. The unranked Lions defeated the 22nd ranked Buccaneers 9-1 in six innings on Friday evening at the Mary Cannon Cabot Softball Stadium. The 12-game win streak has turned an 8-8 overall record into a 20-8 record for the Green & Gold as Saint Leo improved to 5-5 in SSC play. Barry drops to 22-9 overall and 8-2 in league action. The six-inning affair marked the fourth time of such occasion in the last five games.
Tierney Hocquard was a shining light once again in the circle for the Lions allowing just a single run on a pair of hits in the third inning as she pitched a six-inning complete game. The junior pitcher improved to 6-2 on the season and had a trio of strikeouts.
At the plate, the Lions put together a pair of crooked innings with three runs in the second and four in sixth. Saint Leo saw four batters have a multi-hit game as Antioco led the team with three hits.
Briana Neal,
Haleigh Thomas, and
Hope Epps all recorded two hits each. In the leadoff spot, Neal went two-for-two with two RBI, three runs scored, and a pair of walks. As part of her three-for-four night, Antioco had three RBI and two runs scored. Appearing as a pinch hitter, freshman
Marissa Martinez sent a rocket of a line drive down the third base line to the third baseman that was mishandled and scooted away for the walk-off RBI base hit to score Cline.
