SAINT LEO, Fla. – Saint Leo University Softball swept its Sunshine State Conference series against the 22nd-ranked Barry Buccaneers on Saturday to extend its win streak to 14 in a row. The Lions took game one by a slim 1-0 margin before exploding for a 6-3 win in game two at Mary Cannon Cabot Softball Stadium. Lions pitchers combined for 10 strikeouts in both games. Saint Leo is 22-8 on the season and 7-5 in the SSC, while Barry drops to 22-11 overall and 8-4 in conference play.
In the first game, sophomore
Sydney Cline drove in the only run of the game for Saint Leo. Sophomore
Alexis Barber was the lone Lion to record a multi-hit game. Freshman
Chloe Hocquard pitched six-plus innings of scoreless softball, striking out seven batters. Junior
Tierney Hocquard came on in relief in the seventh inning and pitched one scoreless inning, striking out three batters.
T. Hocquard made the start in the second game once again, pitching a complete game. She allowed just a trio of runs on six hits while walking three and striking out six. The Lions were led offensively by
Briana Neal and
Maddie Antioco, who each had two hits.
Gabi Olavarria opened the scoring in the second inning with an RBI base hit, giving the Lions a lead they would never relinquish.
UP NEXT
Saint Leo hits the road for a three-game SSC series in Melbourne, taking on the Panthers of Florida Tech. First pitch on Friday evening is scheduled for 6 p.m.
