SAINT LEO, Fla. – The Saint Leo baseball team was swept by Flagler in a non-conference doubleheader on Saturday evening at Thomas B. Southard Stadium. The Lions lost game one by a 6-2 margin followed by a 4-3 loss in game two.
Game One: Flagler 6, Saint Leo 2
The Saints jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning before an RBI-single from graduate student
Adam Berry trimmed the Saint Leo deficit to 4-1. Over the fifth and sixth innings, Flagler added a pair of runs to lead 6-1. In the eighth, sophomore
Eli Vickers drove in sophomore
Luis Rivero on a fielder's choice, 6-2.
On the mound, senior Adean Walter started and pitched 5.1 innings while collecting six strikeouts. He surrendered six runs (all earned) on 12 hits. Freshman
Drew Stillwell pitched 3.2 innings in relief and struck out a pair.
Junior
Thomas DeBrower went 4-for-4 with one run while Berry notched two hits and one RBI.
Game Two: Flagler 4, Saint Leo 3
Flagler took an early 1-0 lead in the first after a bases loaded walk. Rivero tied the game at 1-1 with an RBI-double down the left field line, however, the Saints reclaimed the lead in the third with a sacrifice-fly to right field. In the bottom of the third and seventh, DeBrower recorded RBI on sacrifice-bunts to score junior
Ryan Jackson as the Green and Gold held a slight 3-2 edge. In the ninth, the Saints blasted a solo home run to tie the game and eventually grasped a 4-3 lead on a wild pitch.
On the mound, freshman
Maddox Sullivan started and pitched 4.0 innings with two runs on three hits and one strikeout. In relief, senior
Dawson Turner pitched 4.0 innings and surrendered two runs on two hits with five strikeouts.
DeBrower went 2-for-2 with a pair of RBI while junior
Ryan Crivello and freshman
Roberto Odor both went 2-for-4.
The Lions return to action on Friday, February 14 as they travel to face non-conference opponent North Georgia at 4 p.m.
