Baseball Swept in Series-Opening Doubleheader at North Georgia

DAHLONEGA, Ga. – The Saint Leo baseball team lost both games of a series-opening doubleheader on the road at North Georgia on Friday in non-conference action. The Lions lost game one 12-5 before losing game two by a 9-5 margin.

GAME ONE: North Georgia 12, Saint Leo 5

The Nighthawks claimed a 6-0 lead following the fourth inning, however, the Lions' offense kicked into gear in the fifth with five consecutive runs with starting with junior Dylan Mass notching an RBI-single. Junior Ryan Crivello earned an RBI-single to to left field to trim the deficit to 6-2 before graduate student Adam Berry singled to right field as he drove in a run. The Green and Gold scored two more runs with senior Braden Killens being hit by a pitch and classmate Caleb Adams recording an RBI on a fielder's choice. The North Georgia offense scored six more runs between the sixth and seventh innings to grab a commanding 12-5 lead.

Both Berry and freshman Roberto Odor tallied a pair of hits in four at-bats. On the mound, graduate student Kyle Scrape surrendered six runs (four earned) on seven hits while striking out five batters.

GAME TWO: North Georgia 9, Saint Leo 5

Berry gave the Lions a 2-1 in the third inning following a two-run homer as he scored Crivello as well. In the fourth, the Nighthawks reclaimed the lead with a 3-2 margin, however, Saint Leo answered back in the fifth as junior Adrian Selles registered an RBI with a walk and Moss posted an two-run double in right field as the Green and Gold earned a 5-3 lead. North Georgia scored six consecutive runs and held the Lions at bay for a 9-5 win.

Mass, Berry, Odor, and senior Ryan Robinson each tallied two hits. Additionally, Mass and Berry knocked in a pair of runs. Senior Aedan Walter started and pitched 6.2 innings and tallied five strikeouts while allowing four runs (all earned) on eight hits. In relief, senior Kaelen Racculia pitched 1.1 innings and surrendered five runs (all earned) on four hits.

The Lions are scheduled to conclude their series at North Georgia with a single game tomorrow, Saturday, February 15, starting at 12 p.m.
