SAINT LEO, Fla. – On Thursday, February 6, 2025, Saint Leo University hosted the 32nd edition of its Girls and Women in Sports banquet at the Wellness Center. Saint Leo University President, Dr. Ed Dadez and Director of Athletics, Wellness, and Recreation,
Marcal Lazenby and Saint Leo Board of Trustees were proud to honor the university's female student-athletes, coaches, and legacy of women's sports advocates.

The evening began with a social reception, setting the stage for a night of recognition and inspiration. Director of Athletics, Wellness, & Recreation
Marcal Lazenby opened the program, followed by a warm welcome from Saint Leo University President Dr. Ed Dadez. Board of Trustees Chair Edwin Narain ('07, '09) also delivered remarks, emphasizing the university's commitment to empowering female athletes.
After an opening prayer by Father John McEvoy and dinner, Associate Athletic Director & Senior Women Administrator
Dawn Boltin provided reflections on the significance of Girls & Women in Sports Day.
One of the highlights of the night was the
presentation of the Elaine Evans Spirit of Saint Leo Award, given annually to a female athlete who embodies leadership, service, and the university's core values. This year's recipient was
sophomore softball player Nia DeBenedittis, recognized for her outstanding contributions both on and off the field. Her commitment to excellence, sportsmanship, and community service made her a deserving honoree of this prestigious award.
The banquet's keynote moment was the Women in Sports Achievement Award presentation, introduced by SAAC President
Kristina Arwady. This year's distinguished honoree was Denise Schilte-Brown, head coach of Tampa Bay Sun FC. With an impressive coaching career that includes leading USF to multiple conference championships and NCAA tournament appearances, Schilte-Brown delivered an inspiring speech about perseverance, leadership, and the evolving landscape of women's sports.
The event concluded with closing remarks, leaving attendees with a renewed appreciation for the impact of female athletes at Saint Leo and beyond.
Saint Leo University extends its gratitude to sponsors and supporters, including Tampa Bay Top 10 Soccer, Robert Cabot & Kristen Cabot Brady, Barbara & Robert Caldwell, and Barbara Wilson, whose generosity made the evening possible.
