#19 Men’s Lacrosse Conquers Lincoln Memorial in Neutral Site Contest

SAVANNAH, Ga. – The 19th-ranked Saint Leo men's lacrosse team earned a 14-10 victory in a neutral site non-conference game versus Lincoln Memorial on Saturday afternoon in Savannah, Georgia.

Junior Thomas Nelan and freshman Anderson Smith kicked started the game with two goals for the Lions in the first two minutes of regulation. However, the Railsplitters scored five unanswered to lead 5-2 at the end of the first quarter.

The Lions offense and defense jumped into gear in the second frame with six goals scored while the defense only allowed one goal for Lincoln Memorial. At halftime, the Green and Gold claimed a 8-6 advantage following goals from juniors Ben Baker and John Raucci.

The Railsplitters tallied the first two goals of the second half to tie the game 8-8, however, the Lions countered with a trio of goals, first from junior Zach Kroog followed by Nelan and junior Aidan Knoetgen. At the start of the fourth frame, Saint Leo led by a 12-9 margin. Both defenses were stout in the final frame as only three goals were scored with two coming from the Lions (Knoetgen and Baker).

Raucci and Thomas led the Lions offense with five points each. Raucci laced four goals and one assist while Thomas tallied a pair of goals and a trio of assists. Knoetgen, Baker, and Kroog registered two goals and one assist each. Freshman Maverick Chernoff earned one goal and one assist while sophomore Brayden Stellwagen and freshman Michael Guenther dished out an assist. Defensively, sophomore Andrew Graham grabbed six ground balls and junior James Davies tallied four ground balls. Junior Jimmy McGonigle caused four turnovers. In the net, junior Drew Wheeler collected 13 saves in the complete-game win.
