SAINT LEO, Fla. – The Saint Leo men's basketball team lost 102-73 at home versus third-ranked Nova Southeastern in a Sunshine State Conference (SSC) contest on Saturday evening.
Four Lions scored in double-digits as senior
Tae Wilson led the way with 15 points along with four rebounds, two assists, and one steal, followed by freshman
Jaylan McElroy with 14 points, two assists, one block, and one steal. Sophomore
Amar Hot registered 13 points, two steals, and one assist. Freshman
Camden Cerese tallied 12 points, three rebounds, and two assists.
Despite facing a 19-point deficit in the early stages of the first half, the Lions cut the Sharks' lead to just five (34-29) following a three-pointer from Hot and a fastbreak layup from Wilson. However, Nova Southeastern's offense kicked into gear to hold a 56-40 lead at halftime. In the second half, the Sharks led by a 21-point margin (72-51) and kept a 20-point or more lead for the remainder of the game.
As a team, the Green and Gold shot 42.2 percent from the field and 37.0 percent from beyond the arc while converting all nine attempts from the charity stripe. Additionally, Saint Leo grabbed 30 total rebounds with seven being offensive along with denying seven blocked shots.
The Lions return to action on Saturday February 22 as it travels to face Florida Southern in an SSC bout, starting at 6 p.m.
