LAKELAND, Fla. – The Saint Leo Men's basketball team ended the season series with Florida Southern with a split as the Mocs claimed a 108-83 victory over the Lions on Saturday evening in Lakeland. Saint Leo falls to 10-16 overall and 5-13 in SSC play with just two games to play. While the Mocs improve to 21-7 overall and 12-6 in SSC play.
The freshmen duo of
Brady Corso and
Jaylan McElroy led the Lions offense with 19 points each and combined for eight rebounds. Senior
Tae Wilson followed with 17 points, while
Eric Jones grabbed eight rebounds.
FLORIDA SOUTHERN 108, SAINT LEO 83
- An action packed first three minutes included three-pointers from Wilson and Corso.
- Multiple empty possessions and scoring droughts from Saint Leo allowed Florida Southern to jump out to a commanding lead.
- Another pair of three-pointers from Corso throughout the final 10 minutes kept the Lions on the board.
- Florida Southern capped off an impressive half, with a step-back three-pointer with 11 seconds to play, taking a 20-point lead into halftime.
- McElroy opened the scoring in the second half with second chance dunk after the teams were scoreless for just over two minutes.
- Saint Leo was unable to find its footing for most of the second half, going on numerous long scoring droughts as Florida Southern dominated the second half.
- The Mocs scored 31 points on second chance opportunities, compared to just 12 by the Lions.
- Florida Southern out rebounded Saint Leo, 55-35.
UP NEXT
Saint Leo has two games remaining in the 2024-25 regular season. The Lions final road contest has them making the midweek trip to Boca Raton for a meeting with the Fighting Knights of Lynn (Feb. 26). The Green & Gold will close out the regular season on March 1 as they host Florida Tech for senior day.
