Second Half Run Propells Men's Basketball to 80-65 Win over Rollins

SAINT LEO, Fla. – The Saint Leo University men's basketball team earned an emphatic victory over the Rollins College Tars at home on Wednesday evening. The Lions closed out the game on a 27-12 run to earn the 80-65 victory. The Lions split the season series with Rollins and improve to 10-14 overall and 5-11 in SSC play as the Tars fall to 15-9 overall and 8-7 in SSC play.
 
Freshman Brady Corso continued his rookie season with 23 points, as well as snagging five rebounds. Senior Tae Wilson had a strong performance of 18 points, eight rebounds, and three assists. Freshman Jaylan McElroy scored 12 points and grabbed seven rebounds. Sophomore Amar Hot stayed hot off the bench with 13 points and four assists.
 
SAINT LEO 80, ROLLINS 65
  • Rollins capitalized off of Lions' turnovers to maintain a two-point lead in a defensive opening six minutes.
  • The Lions struggled to extend their offensive possessions in the opening 10 minutes, which Rollins used to extend their lead to nine.
  • A three-pointer and a dunk from Brady Corso led to a 7-0 run for the Lions as they clawed their way back into the game.
  • A pair of emphatic dunks from Tae Wilson blew the roof off the Bowman Center and gave the Lions their first lead of the night during a 13-3 run late in the opening half.
  • Graduate student Eric Jones hit a pair of contested step-back two-point jumpers to give Saint Leo a seven-point lead into halftime.
  • The Lions' defense opened the half strong, keeping Rollins scoreless for nearly four minutes. However, Rollins rebounded using a 10-0 run in just over a minute to cut the lead to one.
  • Brady Corso answered the Tars, hitting two big three-pointers to reclaim the lead for the Lions.
  • The Lions defense forced multiple turnovers and held the Tars scoreless for over five minutes as the half entered its' final minutes.
  • A pair of incredible steals from Freshman Camden Cerese helped the Lions lead reach 16 in the final five minutes.
  • The Lions shut down the Tars' offense in the final 10 minutes to cap off the victory.
