SAINT LEO, Fla. – The Saint Leo women's basketball team dropped to 7-12 on the season with a 70-57 loss to #16 Embry-Riddle at home in a in a Sunshine State Conference (SSC) contest on Saturday afternoon.

The Lions and Eagles both capitalized on multiple turnovers, scoring fast break points in a closely contested opening frame. Alanis Diaz led the way for the Lions with seven points in the first quarter.

Defense was the name of the game early in the second period. Both teams went scoreless over three minutes early in the quarter. Olivia Agunzo and Alanis Diaz helped the Lions cut the lead to two with one minute to go, but a three-point jumper by the visitors gave them a five-point advantage going to halftime.

The Eagles defense held the Lions to only ten points in the third quarter. A pair of Eagles accounted for 12 of Embry-Riddle's 20 points in the quarter to extend the lead to 15 at the end of the quarter.

The Lions rebounding struggles continued throughout the fourth quarter, as the Eagles capitalized on multiple second-chance opportunities to maintain a strong lead. The Lions would not go away quietly as six players scored three or more points. However, the Eagles continued to answer and ultimately finished off a convincing victory.
