WINTER PARK, Fla. – The Saint Leo women's basketball team lost 78-62 on the road at Rollins in a Sunshine State Conference (SSC) match up on Wednesday night.
"In a game like this, I'll always try and take the positive out of the performance and I can say that we saw some good things from our bench when we needed a boost", said head coach
Anthony Crocitto. "I think we responded well after that first quarter and we showed some grit, but it was too little too late for us. At this point, we need to be focused on our next game and be ready to execute in key situations," Crocitto also stated.
The Lions' offensive charge was led by freshman
Vanessa McManus and junior
Alanis Diaz as McManus laced 18 points on 8-of-16 shooting from the field while Diaz collected 16 points and converted eight fee throw attempts. Junior
Taydra Simpson notched six points and six boards in 23 minutes of play. Alanis also chipped in with six rebounds and four steals while Simpson denied a pair of shots.
The Saint Leo bench outscored the Rollins bench by a 19-16 margin while the Green and Gold also pushed the ball in transition with 11 points on the fast break. Saint Leo grabbed a total of 37 rebounds in addition to notching nine assists, eight steals, and five blocks.
The Lions return to action on Saturday, January 11 as they travel to Nova Southeastern for an SSC bout, starting at 2 p.m.
