FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Despite a trio of players scoring in double-digits, the Saint Leo women's basketball team lost 88-67 on the road against #20 Nova Southeastern in a Sunshine State Conference (SSC) contest on Saturday afternoon.
"When you face a top-20 program it's going to be tough", said head coach
Anthony Crocitto. "I will say that I liked that we didn't shy away from the competition. We had three players score in double figures and against a good program like this it shows that we didn't fear them. It just wasn't our night, and the ball wasn't rolling our way. I though we shot the ball well tonight, but we have to limit the turnovers and that was the difference."
Redshirt junior
Chynna Mattair led the Lions with 19 point along with two rebounds, one steal, and one assist. Junior
Alanis Diaz registered 17 points and grabbed eight boards to go with three assists. Graduate student
Jumoke Adaramoye notched 14 points while collecting six rebounds, one block, one steal, and one assist. Junior
Taydra Simpson tallied nine points with a pair of steals and dished out four assists.
The Green and Gold led in the fast break points category by a 12-7 margin and recorded 34 points in the paint. Saint Leo shot 41.8 percent from the field and converted 70.8 percent from the charity stripe. On the glass, the Lions notched a total of 31 rebounds, eight of which were offensive boards.
