ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. –The Saint Leo women's basketball team lost 65-50 on the road against Eckerd in a Sunshine State Conference (SSC) game at St. Petersburg College on Wednesday evening.
The Lions' offense output was led by freshman
Vanessa McManus, who recorded 16 points and collected six rebounds and dished out one assist. Junior
Taydra Simpson tallied 11 points and grabbed five boards. Graduate student
Jumoke Adaramoye recorded 10 points and eight rebounds.
The Green and Gold outscored the Tritons 21-14 in the opening quarter until Eckerd held Saint Leo to 13 total points over the next two quarters. The Tritons collected 20 points in each the second and third frame to take a 54-34 advantage into the fourth.
As a team, the Lions shot 31.4 percent from the field (16-for-51) and converted 93.8 percent from the charity stripe. Saint Leo collected 30 defensive rebounds and six offensive boards while its three blocks all came from Simpson.
Saint Leo returns to the court on Saturday, February 1 as it hosts #16 Embry-Riddle in a conference bout, starting at 2 p.m.
