#4 Baseball Opens Series at Lynn with Impressive Win

BOCA RATON, Fla. – The fourth-ranked Saint Leo baseball team earned a 7-3 victory on the road in the series-opener against Lynn on Friday afternoon in Sunshine State Conference (SSC) play.

Both teams opened the game in a pitchers' duel and defensive battle with the first three innings going scoreless until junior Callan Moss laced a single to right field in the fourth inning to plate graduate student Buck Anderson to give the Lions a 1-0 lead. Graduate student Yazael Nunes extended the Green and Gold with an RBI-groundout as senior Mikey Scott crossed home plate, 2-0.

In the fifth, sophomore Dylan Mass sacrificed-flied to right field to stretch the Saint Leo advantage to 3-0 followed by Anderson scoring senior Caleb Adams on a groundout to first base as the lions gained a 4-0 edge. The Fighting Knights trimmed their deficit to 4-1 in the bottom half of the fifth followed by Lynn plating another run in the sixth on a single to center field, 4-2. During the top of the seventh, Adams sacrificed-flied to left field as graduate student Zach Benson came in to score. Moss extended the Green and Gold lead to 7-2 in the eighth as he blasted a two-run homer. In the ninth, Lynn cut the Saint Leo advantage to 7-3 before a groundout to senior Kaelan Racculia sealed the win for the Lions.

Moss went 2-for-4 at the dish while recording three RBI which included his two-run jack in the eighth. Benson tallied two hits and scored a run while Anderson rounded the bases twice and posted a pair of hits with an RBI. On the mound, senior Luke Lashutka started for the Lions and struck out eight batters as he allowed two runs (both earned) on seven hits in 7.0 innings.

Saint Leo returns to action tomorrow, Saturday, April 20 as it concludes the three-game series at Lynn with a doubleheader, starting at 12 p.m.
