SAINT LEO, Fla. – The third-ranked Saint Leo University men's tennis team extended its win streak to nine matches with an incredible 4-3 victory over #5 Barry University on Sunday. The Lions and the Bucs battled to the very end with the Lions earning the match victory at number one singles by #4
Martin Soukal. The Lions avenged a 4-3 loss to the Buccaneers in the ITA Indoor National Championship match last month. The Lions improved to 5-0 in Sunshine State Conference play with just two conference matches remaining in 2024.
The Lions earned the doubles point with victories at doubles three and one.
Vincent Thiel and
Eduardo Cohen opened the match with a 6-2 victory. #17
Martin Soukal and
Luis Iriarte posted a 6-3 victory to clinch the doubles point for the home team.
Singles play was a battle as the two teams split the six singles matches, 3-3. Barry tied the match at 1-1 with a victory at number five singles. Singles victories by Kodia Kato at number six and
Nicolas Bacella gave the Lions a 3-1 advantage. Barry earned wins at number four and two singles to tie the match at 3-3.

Martin Soukal dropped his opening set 6-1. He battled back to win the second set 6-4 and force a final and deciding set. Soukal blanked his opponent in the final set 6-0 to clinch the victory for the Lions over the Bucs.
