SAINT LEO, Fla. – In a battle between two of the top-three ranked teams in the country, the third-ranked Saint Leo men's tennis team was victorious over top-ranked University of Indianapolis, 4-3, in a thriller at home on Friday afternoon. With the victory the Lions extended their win streak to eight matches and is now 14-1 overall.
After dropping the first doubles match, the Lions fought back and won the last two doubles matches to claim the doubles point as graduate students
Nicolas Bacella and
Ghali Mensour collected a 6-6, 7-3 win in the second doubles position. In the third doubles slot, junior
Vincent Thiel and freshman
Eduardo Cohen posted a 6-3 victory.
The Lions opened singles competition with a 6-0, 6-2 win from sixth-year
Martin Soukal in the first singles match while Mensour tallied a 6-3, 6-1 victory at fourth singles. The Soukal and Mensour victories sandwiched a pair of Greyhound wins. In the sixth singles matchup, senior
Luis Iriarte sealed a Lions victory as he rallied to win the second and third set 6-2 and 6-1.
