ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – Brayden Heidel turned in another quality start for Saint Leo University baseball on Friday night at Flagler. The Lions used a pair of two-run innings to secure a series opening 5-2 victory in St. Augustine.
Mikey Scott and
Cooper Miles combined for four of the Lions eight hits on the night.
SAINT LEO 5, FLAGLER 2
Flagler opened the scoring in the first inning as its leadoff hitter scored a on wild pitch. After that Heidel blanked the Saints for his final five innings scattering three hits and two walks while striking our a season-high seven batters.
Miles scored the first Lions run on a sac fly off the bat of
Buck Anderson.
Zach Benson scored to put the Lions up for good as Scott reached on a fielder's choice.
Caleb Adams stole third in the seventh inning and an errant throw by the Saints catcher allowed him to race home making it a 3-1 Lions advantage. Miles scored his second run of the game as he scored on a passed ball.
Scott belted his third career homer, a solo shot in the eight-inning adding an insurance run for the Green and Gold.
Flagler added a run in the bottom of the eighth on a fielder's choice.
Saint Leo concludes its three-game series at Flagler on Saturday with a doubleheader. First pitch of game one is scheduled for 1 p.m.
