SAINT LEO, Fla. – The Saint Leo women's basketball team lost 56-51 at home versus Holy Family in a non-conference game on Tuesday afternoon at the Marion Bowman Center.
In the final minutes of regulation, a mid-range jumper from junior
Alanis Diaz cut the Lions deficit to 53-51, however, a pair of free throws from the Tigers with less than 10 seconds remaining iced the game a 56-51 margin.
Saint Leo was led by Diaz, who tallied 17 points, eight rebounds, three steals, two assists, and one block. Junior
Taydra Simpson notched nine points, four blocks, and collected three boards. Graduate student
Jumoke Adaramoye recorded six points and seven rebounds.
The Lions outscored the Tigers 23-13 in the third quarter and posted 12 fast break points. The Green and Gold defense was stout as it held Holy Family to a 29.7 shooting percentage from the field and 16.7 percent from beyond the arc, however, the Tigers out rebounded the Lions 55-35 in addition to grabbing 24 offensive boards. The Saint Leo bench outscored the Holy Family bench 10-7.
Saint Leo returns to the court on Friday, December 20 as it hosts Fort Lauderdale in non-conference action at 3 p.m.
