TAMPA, Fla. – The Saint Leo women's basketball team picked up an 85-63 victory versus Concord on Saturday afternoon in non-conference play as it wrapped up the Tampa Thanksgiving Classic.
"That's a great way to finish the month of November, it was all-hands on deck for this one and the way we responded in the face of adversity says it all", said head coach
Anthony Crocitto. Crocitto also said, "A lot of freshmen stepped up when we needed it and our shooting efficient in all facets. This was really important for us to get momentum headed into some conference games and we got the job done today. Our defense was stifling at times and that's something I preach day in and day out, this was complete performance."
All five of the Lions' starters scored in double digits, led by junior
Taydra Simpson with 21 points as she went 8-for-9 from the field in addition to recording five steals, seven assists, and five rebounds. Freshman
Vanessa McManus tallied 18 points while dishing out eight assists with a trio of boards. Redshirt
Chynna Mattair laced 16 points as she also notched nine assists and three rebounds. Junior
Alanis Diaz posted 14 points with a steal, one board, and one assist. Graduate
Jumoke Adaramoye registered 10 points and grabbed six rebounds with two assists.
Saint Leo shot 54.7 percent from the floor and went 9-for-16 from the three-point line. Additionally, the Lions pushed the ball in transition with 21 fastbreak points. The Green and Gold defense tallied 10 steals and forced 17 turnovers.
Saint Leo returns to the court on Wednesday, December 4 as it hosts Eckerd in Sunshine State Conference (SSC) action, starting at 5 p.m.
