Volleyball Opens Final Weekend with 3-0 Loss at #16 Lynn

BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Saint Leo University volleyball team is in its final weekend of the season and made the trip to south Florida to close out the 2024 regular season. The Lions faced a tough challenge on Friday night, taking on #16 Lynn University Fighting Knights in their penultimate match of the season. Saint Leo dropped the match 3-0 to Lynn in Boca Raton.

Oliwia Durka (.286) and Molly Chappell (.269) led the Green & Gold in hitting percentage. Chappell was the only Lion to hit double digits with 11 kills. Chloe Ates and Tajma Muharemovic led Saint Leo with eight digs each. The Lions as a team had its best hitting percentage with a .345 in the second set.

#16 LYNN 3, SAINT LEO 0
  • The nationally ranked Fighting Knights proved why they enter the final weekend at the top of the SSC standings, hitting a blistering .344 as a team while limiting the Lions to a .091 hitting percentage.
  • The Lions opened with a competitive start in the first set, keeping pace early before Lynn pulled away for a 25-16 win. Despite solid contributions from Molly Chappell, who led the team with 11 kills (.269 hitting percentage), and Oliwia Durka's eight kills (.286), Saint Leo could not overcome Lynn's defensive pressure and efficiency. Lynn's Maria Cecilia was dominant, recording 13 kills with an outstanding .619 hitting percentage.
  • The Fighting Knights maintained control through the final two sets, winning 25-19 and 25-9. Lynn's balanced attack and sharp serving, which included 10 aces, proved too much for Saint Leo to handle. The Lions fought valiantly but struggled to find consistency against the top-tier opponent. Saint Leo drops to 5-22 overall and 1-18 in SSC play, while Lynn improves to 26-3 and 16-3 in the conference. The Lions return to action for their final matches of the season as they aim to finish strong.
