Men’s Soccer Falls to Tampa at Home, 2-1

SAINT LEO, Fla. – The Saint Leo men's soccer team lost 2-1 at home versus Tampa in a Sunshine State Conference (SSC) matchup on Saturday night. With the loss the Lions fall to 3-8-3 overall behind a 2-4-2 conference record.

In the 19th minute of the game, junior Anel Rojas laced his sixth consecutive goal for the Lions to give the Green and Gold a 1-0 lead. The Lions' defense held the Spartans to just four shot attempts for the remainder of the first half as Saint Leo maintained its 1-0 margin at intermission.

During the second half, Tampa quickly answered and tied the game at 1-1 in the 52nd with a goal off a header. Less than a minute later, the Spartans claimed a 2-1 lead. On a freekick opportunity, Rojas laced a shot a bounced off the crossbar and the Lions only mustered two shot attempts for the rest of the game.

Tampa held the slight edge on shot attempts 8-7 while each team notched two shots on goal. Saint Leo tallied four corner kicks while the Spartans attempted three.

Freshman goalkeeper James Knudson played all 90 minutes for the Lions in the net.

Saint Leo returns to action on Monday, November 4 as it travels to face top-ranked Lynn, starting at 6 p.m.
