ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – The Saint Leo volleyball team fell in straight sets on the road to Eckerd in a Sunshine State Conference (SSC) matchup on Wednesday night at the McArthur Center. The Lions, now 5-13 overall and 1-9 in conference play while the Tritons improved to 11-6 on the season and 4-5 in the SSC.
Senior
Oliwia Durka was a force at the net, leading Saint Leo with 14 kills and racking up a team-high 15 points. The Lions posted a .333 hitting percentage in the second set, their best of the match. Adding to the offensive effort, junior
Anyaliz Rodriguez chipped in five kills and two aces. Junior
Tajma Muharemovic anchored the team's attack with 20 assists while senior
Sophia Leon-Tabor recorded eight digs. Junior
Brielle Kallberg also contributed with five digs and added three kills on a .333 hitting clip.
Eckerd jumped out the gates in the opening set, resulting in a 25-13 scoreline. The Lions found a better rhythm in the second set by hitting .333. Despite their effort, the Lions dropped the second set 25-22. Saint Leo fought in the third, keeping the score within reach before Eckerd closed it out 25-20 to secure the 3-0 victory.
The Lions will be back on the court Saturday, November 2 as they travel to face Barry in an SSC bout, starting at 4 p.m.
