MIAMI SHORES, Fla. – Saint Leo University team fell 3-0 at Barry University on Saturday evening in Miami Shores. As a team the Lions struggled to hit the ball well posting a .061 hitting percentage and failed to register double-digit kills in a single set. The Lions fall to 5-14 overall and 1-10 in Sunshine State Conference action while the Buccaneers are 14-4 overall and 7-4 in the SSC.
Saint Leo's attack was led by
Oliwia Durka with 13 kills,
Madison Moore totaled eight and
Brielle Kallberg add another kill.
Sheila Rodriguez registered a pair of blocks while Durka and Moore also had a block each.
Tajma Muharemovic led the team with 19 assists and was tied with
Ivett Flores with six digs each.
BARRY 3, SAINT LEO 0
SET 1: BU 25, SLU 12
- The Buccaneers got out to a hot start with a 4-0 run before a service error by the home team followed by a trio of attack errors by Barry tied the opening set at 4-4.
- Moore got the first point for the Lions with a kill to the set at 5-5.
- Back-to-back kills by Durka pulled the Lions within one before the Buccaneers closed out the opening set with a 16-3 run including an 8-0 run to close out set one.
SET 2: BU 25, SLU 12
- Moore opened the second set with the kill for a 1-0 lead. The Buccaneers quickly took control of the set going on a 9-1 run.
- Through its first seven points the Lions managed to get points back-to-back once on a service error by the Bucs and a kill by Durka to cut the Barry lead to nine points.
- Down 23-8, the Lions strung together a 4-0 run to before closed out the second set with a kill and a service ace for the 25-12 set two victory and a 2-0 match advantage.
SET 3: BU 25, SLU 15
- Set three opened in similar fashion as the first two sets with Barry jumping out to a sizeable lead.
- Trailing 9-2, the Lions attempted to get back into the set with a 3-0 run, however a Saint Leo attack error and a Barry kill gave the home team a five-point advantage at 11-5.
- Saint Leo cut the Barry led to 15-11 with a 3-0 run on a Barry service error and back-to-back attack errors by the home team.
- Four straight kills by the Buccaneers highlighted a 5-0 run that all but sealed up the set and match victory. While the teams traded the next six points as Saint Leo made it an eight point deficit, Barry put the finishing touches on the win with a pair of kills.
