Volleyball Conquers Palm Beach Atlantic with 3-2 Comeback Victory

SAINT LEO, Fla. – The Saint Leo volleyball team notched a 3-2 come-from-behind victory over Palm Beach Atlantic in Sunshine State Conference (SSC) play on Friday night in the Marion Bowman Center.

After dropping the first two sets, the Lions were trading leads with the Sailfish in the third frame until a kill from senior Oliwia Durka started a 5-0 run for the Green and Gold as it held a 19-15 advantage. However, Palm Beach Atlantic claimed a late 23-21 cushion before a pair of attacking errors by the Sailfish in addition to a kill from Durka and freshman Madison Moore gave the Lions a 25-23 win.

During the fourth set, Saint Leo led by a 12-5 margin and never looked back as it extended its edge to 20-11. The Sailfish trimmed its deficit to 24-20 before a service error from Palm Beach Atlantic, 25-20.

In the last set, the Green and Gold scored five unanswered before claiming a 9-3 lead after an ace from junior Anyaliz Rodriguez. The Sailfish scored seven of the next eight points to tie the set at 10-10 before getting a match-point opportunity with a 14-12 advantage. A pair of kills from Rodriguez tied the game at 14-14 before Palm Beach Atlantic committed two errors as the Lions earned the 16-14 victory.
