DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – In a road Sunshine State Conference (SSC) match at Embry-Riddle on Wednesday night, the Saint Leo volleyball team lost 3-1. With the loss, the Lions fall to 4-11 with a 0-7 mark in conference play on the season.
After losing the opening set by a 25-19 margin, Saint Leo jumped out to a 7-3 advantage in the second frame after a service ace from senior
Sheila Rodriguez. The second set was highlighted by a 6-1 stretch by the Green and Gold a pair of kills from senior
Oliwia Durka and junior
Anyaliz Rodriguez. After commanding a 20-13 cushion, the Lions captured the second set 25-17 following a kill from junior
Brielle Kallberg and freshman
Madison Moore in addition to an attacking error from Embry-Riddle.
The Eagles earned a 25-11 third set victory off the heels of a 12-2 run to take a 2-1 lead.
Embry-Riddle kickstarted the third set with a 4-0 edge before the Green and Gold countered gained the lead after a 7-2 run with a kill and service ace from senior
Sophia Leon-Tabor. Embry-Riddle claimed a 16-11 advantage before extending to a 22-12 margin. Both teams split the next six points as the Eagles won the final frame 25-15.
A. Rodriguez led the Lions' offense with nine kills with a .273 hitting percentage in addition ot earning 10 digs. Durka recorded eight kills, two blocks, and two digs. Moore tallied six kills and two blocks. Kallberg registered four kills, three blocks, and a pair of digs. Junior
Tajma Muharemovic notched 15 assists and four digs while Leon-Tabor dished out 13 assists, nine digs, and two aces. Sophomore
Sabrina Valentin collected seven digs.
The Lions return to action on Friday, October 25 as they celebrate Breast Cancer Awareness and host Palm Beach Atlantic at 7 p.m. in an SSC matchup.
