DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Following another two-goal performance from junior
Anel Rojas, the Saint Leo men's soccer team tied with Embry-Riddle on Wednesday night in a Sunshine State Conference (SSC) road contest. With the draw, the Lions move to 3-6-3 overall with a 2-2-2 mark in conference games.
With less than six minutes remaining in the first half, the Eagles found the net in the 40th minute. Embry-Riddle maintained its 1-0 edge at halftime.
In the second frame, the Lions applied the pressure with four shot attempts within the first six minutes of action. During 58th minute, sophomore
Juan David Hoffman found Rojas for his first score of the game and knotted the game at 1-1. The Eagles answered in the 74th minute to claim a late 2-1 advantage, however, less than two minutes later junior
Yuto Komine registered an assist to Rojas to find the net and tie the game once again, 2-2. In the closing minutes, both teams had opportunities to score, however, the defenses stood strong.
Saint Leo out shot the Eagles 14-13. Embry-Riddle held a 6-4 edge on shots on goal while both teams recorded five corner kicks.
Rojas notched his consecutive two-goal performance following tonight's game. Freshman goalkeeper
James Knudson registered four saves in the complete-game effort.
The Lions are back on the pitch, Wednesday, October 30 as they travel to face Rollins in a conference bout at 6 p.m.
