SAINT LEO, Fla. – The Saint Leo volleyball team lost 3-0 at home against #4 Tampa on Tuesday night in Sunshine State Conference (SSC) action in the Marion Bowman Center. With the loss, the Lions fell to 4-10 overall with a 0-6 mark in conference play. Meanwhile, the Spartans advanced to 12-1 with a 4-1 record in SSC matches.
During the third set, the Green and Gold executed a 5-0 run that gave them an 11-5 advantage that was highlighted by two kills from freshman
Madison Moore and a service ace from junior
Paula Perez Rosales. Tampa trimmed its deficit to 18-16 following an 11-7 stretch. As Saint Leo held a slight 21-19 lead, the Spartans scored six consecutive points to claim the final frame with a 25-21 margin.
A pair of attack errors from Tampa in the second set pulled the Lions within three points, 16-13, however the Spartans scored five of the next six points to capture a 21-14 advantage to hold that momentum to a 25-16 victory in the set.
In the opening set, the Spartans built a commanding 20-9 lead before taking the frame by a 25-13 margin.
Perez Rosales led the Lions with 10 kills while hitting at a .240 rate. Additionally, she tallied five digs, one block, and an ace. Senior
Sheila Rodriguez notched a trio of kills a hit at a .375 percentage. Junior
Tajma Muharemovic dished out seven assists with five digs and a service ace. Senior
Sophia Leon-Tabor recorded six assists with one dig. Senior
Ivett Flores notched five digs in addition to a pair of assists.
Saint Leo is back on the road tomorrow, Wednesday, October 23 as it travels to compete against Embry-Riddle at 7 p.m. in an SSC bout.
