SAINT LEO, Fla. – As junior
Anel Rojas connected on a pair of goals, the Saint Leo men's soccer team registered a 2-1 victory versus Barry on Saturday night at the Saint Leo Soccer Field in Sunshine State Conference (SSC) action. With the win, the Lions improve to 3-6-2 overall with a 2-2-1 mark in conference play.
The first half featured a scoreless tie as Saint Leo out shot the Bucs 4-2. Additionally, the Green and Gold notched three corner kicks while Barry were held without a corner in the first half.
During the 52nd minute, senior Antonie Joblet found junior
Anel Rojas for his fourth goal of the season as the Lions led 1-0. The Bucs answered less than seven minutes later to tie the game at one goal apiece.
In a free kick opportunity during the 80th minute, freshman
Virgilio Escala and junior
Yuto Komine dished out a double-assist to Rojas, earning his second goal of the match. The Lions defense held the Bucs in check as Barry did not muster a shot attempt for the rest of the game. Saint Leo secured the 2-1 win.
The Green and Gold out shot Barry 12-4 while the Lions also held the advantage in shots on goal 4-2.
Freshman goalkeeper
James Knudson earned the complete-game win with one save.
The Lions return to the pitch on Wednesday, October 23 as they travel to compete against Embry-Riddle in a conference showdown, starting at 7 p.m.
