Saint Leo, Fla. – The Saint Leo University volleyball team (6-2, 1-1 SSC) bounced back from this last night's loss by defeating Eckerd College (7-2, 0-2 SSC) Saturday Afternoon in five sets by set scores of 18-25, 14-25, 26-24, 25-23, 15-13.
Madi Certain set the tone this match for the Lions offense with a team-high 15 kills.Â
Tajma Muharemovic was impressive as well with a double-double collecting 20 digs and 44 assists.
It was a rough start in the beginning of the match dropping the first two sets. The Tritons came out of the gate with energy.Â
Stella Antypa led the Tritons offense with a match-high 16 kills.
The Lions came out of the second set break with new life. Saint Leo was able to crank up the defensive pressure as well as some great attacking by
Julia Panko and
Oliwia Durka. The Lions would string together several runs throughout the third and fourth sets to lock this match up at two sets a piece.
The Lions came out of the gates charging in the final set jumping out to a quick 3-0 lead. The two teams would grind out the match finale with a tight battle. Saint Leo was able to grind out a late set rally to jump ahead of Eckerd College to secure the match, 15-11. Saint Leo was able to complete the comeback in a highly competitive matchup.
The Lions return to action at home next Friday evening for a conference showdown against Rollins College at 7:00 p.m. at the Marion Bowmans Activities Center.
