LAKELAND, Fla. – The Saint Leo volleyball team traveled to Florida Southern Friday Evening and the Moc's came away with a closer than the score indicates 3-0 victory. The Lions fell in both the second and third sets by the closest of margins at 25-19 while the Moc's cruised in the second set, 25-13. Sophomore
Julia Panko led the Lions with 9 kills.
Joining
Panko for the Lions attack were a duo of hitters who finished with seven kills including Junior
Oliwia Durka and Graduate Student
Reagan Hopp and Senior
Margaret Schirm led the Lions at the net on defense two blocks.
Senior libero
Jeanette Henderson was all over the floor finishing with a match-best 15 digs. Sophomore
Tajma Muharemovic dished out 14 assists from her setter position while also digging up 4 balls and posting three blocks.
Florida Southern was paced by Mackenzie Petermann who had a match-high 13 kills while four others finished with 4 or more kills in the match. The Moc's out-hit the Lions .257 to .084 while finishing with seven blocks.
The Lions hung in tough all night showing a lot of grit, but at the end the Moc's were a little too much to handle. The Lions look to bounce back with a quick turnaround.
The Lions will now face Eckerd College in a home conference matchup at the Marion Bowman Athletics Center. The Lions and Tritons will take to the court at 4 p.m.
