LAKELAND, Fla. – Saint Leo and Florida Southern put on a show Wednesday night in a rivalry game at Berend Field. The two teams battled it out all night as the Sunshine State Conference foes battled to a 1-1 draw.
Saint Leo (0-3-2) is no stranger to extra time. Wednesday night marked the program's second overtime appearance this season. The Green and Gold looked sharp early with steady pressure.
Florida Southern (2-2-1) opened the scoring in the 19
th minute with a goal to put them ahead 1-0. Moc's Felix Tonne was the first to strike, finding the back of the net.
Less than five minutes later in the 24th minute, Lions Midfielder Edoardo Degl'Innocenti was able to score the equalizer to tie it up. Degl'Innocenti was very active on the night leading with four shots, three of them being on goal. The two teams went into half time looking to break the tie.
The two teams came out of the half aggressive and battled it out but ultimately ended in a tie.
The Lions return to the road for a road trip to Mars Hill, NC to take on Mars Hill University on Saturday, September 16. Kickoff is slated to start at 1:00 p.m.
