Saint Leo, Fla.- The Saint Leo women's volleyball team opened up the 2023 season against Edward Waters Friday afternoon. The Lions swept the Tigers to kick off the season with an early 1-0 record.
Reagan Hopp led the offense for the Lions, tallying a team-high 13 kills.
The first set led off with both teams battling back and forth.
Reagan Hopp would ignite a 5-0 run with her first kill of the match. The Tigers quickly got back into the first set, taking advantage on a
Jeanette Henderson service error. The Lions would pull away thanks to a couple of short runs to take the first set, 25-17.
Julia Panko led the first set with five kills.
The Lions jumped out to their biggest lead, jumping out to a quick 7-0 lead. Saint Leo would take control dominating the whole second set to win, 25-15.
Tajma Muharemovic finished the second set with two aces.
Reagan Hopp played a factor offensively for the Lions finishing with seven kills through two sets.
Saint Leo was able to pull off the match sweep, defeating Edward Waters 25-21. After the two teams battled throughout the early moments of the soon-to-be final set.
Madi Certain would strike a pivotal kill in the set to ignite a 4-point run. The Lions would close out the set with their second-four point run of the third set to improve to 1-0 on the season.
The Lions will return to the Marion Bowman Center on Tuesday, September 5th when they welcome Florida College for a 7 pm showdown.
