#11 Lions Complete Doubleheader Sweep and Kayla Betts Completes A Perfect Game

SAINT LEO, FL – #11 Lions win both games of the doubleheader and Kayla Betts completes a perfect game.
 
GAME ONE
 
Haleigh Thomas got the Lions going, striking out the first three batters of the game in the first inning.
 
In the bottom of the first, Briana Neal stepped up to the plate with runners on second and third. She grounded out to first base, but it was enough to bring in a runner and give the Lions an early 1-0 lead.
 
Through four innings, Thomas was at six strikeouts leading the charge for the Lions defensively with them still holding a 1-0 lead.
 
In the top of the sixth inning, Kayla Betts checked into the game. With two outs and runners on second and third, Rollins had an opportunity to come back in the game. Betts sent her pitch and it went straight up in the air off the bat and landed in the glove of Alex Hare who closed out the inning.
 
Saint Leo finished the first game on top after Betts came in to help close things out. The Lions gave up one hit total.
 
GAME TWO
 
The Lions' ace Kayla Betts continued her day starting the second game of the day and the last of the series.
 
In the bottom of the first, Madyson Coe stepped up to bat with runners on first and second. She hit a single to left field that brought in multiple runs after a throwing error to third base led to the second run.
 
The Lions finished the first inning up 3-0.
 
The bottom of the third is where the Lions added on to the scoreboard once again thanks to an Amel Salman single to right field, a Kendyl Crean bunt, and a Hope Epps single to third left the Lions with a 6-0 lead heading into the fourth inning.
 
In the bottom of the fourth, Salman once again stepped up in a big moment and hit an RBI single which was followed by a Crean hit as well. Both plays led the Lions to an 8-0 lead before the fifth.
 
Betts sealed the game in the top of the fifth with a strikeout and not only did the Lions win the game, but Kayla Betts completed a five-inning perfect game.
