SAINT LEO, Fla. – The #1 Saint Leo men's Tennis team hosted Eckerd College for a midweek battle. The Lions recognized
Tao Castillo Bernal during a senior day ceremony prior to the match. #1 Saint Leo cruised to a 7-0 victory over Eckerd.
"Great day to honor our seniors and what they have meant to our program," said head coach
Chad Berryhill. "We were also able to get a lot of different players in the line-up today, so it was great to see everyone play and everyone get a win!"
The afternoon kicked off with the #22 pairing of
Vincent Thiel and
Ghali Mensour defeated Esteve Augusti and Batu Ataseven in straight sets, 6-4. The Saint Leo doubles pairing of
Ivan Marrero and Tao Bernal Castillo shut out the duo of Eric Asakura and Sam Walker, 6-0.
In singles action,
Vincent Thiel got it started for the Green & Gold with a win over Batu Ataseven, 7-5 and 6-3. Tao Bernal Castillo kept the momentum flowing, picking up his own victory in straight sets over Eric Asakura.
Ghali Mensour found his grove and defeated Christian Kearns in three sets, 6-7, 6-4, and 10-7.
Henrique Bertoli,
Federico Pieckenstainer, and
Loup Sudre completed the full sweep taking all of their matches in straight sets.
Saint Leo will welcome #14 Lynn University to the Saint Leo Tennis Center, April 7th. The match is set to begin at 2:00 pm.
