SAINT LEO, Fla.- The Saint Leo baseball team welcomed Sunshine State Conference opponent Lynn University to Thomas B. Southard Stadium, Friday evening.
Zach Benson had a monster day at the dish for the Lions, driving in eight runs and hitting two home runs. The Lions combined for 20 hits Friday evening to defeat the Knights, 22-8.

With the win the Lions improved to 21-14 on the season and 9-7 in the SSC.

The Lions would break open the scoring early with a five run second inning.
Zach Benson did most of the damage in the inning, belting a three-run homer to right field. The homer marked his first home run of the season.

Saint Leo added to their lead in the third inning, taking on five more runs. After loading the bases and forcing a Lynn pitching change, the Lions scored their first run of the inning on a wild pitch that went all the way to the backstop.
Giuseppe Arcuri would drive in the second run of the inning with a deep infield single to short. Benson added to his big day at the plate with a two-run triple to right center.
Buck Anderson would drive home the fifth run of the third with a one run single to right.

Leon Paulino would hit a grand slam in the fifth inning to cut the Lions lead down to six runs.

The Knights would add four more to their total in the top of the sixth.

Mikey Scott would get the Lions back on the board in the bottom of the seventh with a one run single up the middle.
Cooper Miles and Arcuri would each hit a two run double in the eighth. Benson would belt his second homer of the game to extend the Lions lead.

Luke Lashutka earned his first save of the season.

The Lions will close out their Conference series against Lynn University, Saturday April 15th. The first pitch of the doubleheader is scheduled for 1 P.M.
