Baseball Takes Series at Nova Southeastern

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla- The Saint Leo baseball team closed out their conference series against Nova Southeastern, Saturday afternoon. The fell short in the first game 2-5 and took the rubber match, 4-3.
 
With the split the Lions sit at 17-14 on the season and 8-7 in the SSC.
 
GAME ONE:
 
Nova Southeastern would quickly jump out to an early lead scoring one run in the bottom half of the first.
 
The Lions were able to get on the board in the top of the fifth inning to even the score. After Caleb Adams would hit a lead off single to left field, Buck Anderson would drive in the first run with an RBI single up the middle.
 
The Sharks would answer right back in the bottom half of the fifth to take the lead over the Lions, 2-1. Nova Southeastern would add three more runs to their lead in the bottom of the eighth inning.
 
The Lions would score on a wild pitch in the top of the ninth inning to cut the Sharks lead down to three. Koroly would escape the ninth inning jam to knot the series a game apiece.
 
Jestin Jones got the start on the mound for the Lions in game one of the doubleheader. Jones tossed six innings of work, striking out eight of his 26 batters faced.  Jones suffered the loss on the mound for the Green & Gold, falling to 2-2 on the season.
 
GAME TWO:
 
Nova Southeastern would get on the board first in the bottom of the second inning, scoring two runs off of Evan Wolf who would get the start to closeout the series for the Lions.
 
Wolf would pitch 4.1 innings of work, allowing three runs on five hits.
 
The Lions would tie the game at two in the top of the third inning. Zach Benson would plate in the first run of the game, hitting a sacrifice fly to center field to score Yazael Nunez. Adrian Roa would bring in the tying run with an RBI single up the middle.
 
The Lions would take their first lead of the game in the top of the fifth inning when Nunez would reach safely on a throwing error which allowed Adams and Wyman to score.
 
The Sharks would cut the Lions lead down to one run in the bottom half of the fifth.
 
Sam Cole earned the win on the mound for the Lions in the final game of their series against Nova Southeastern. Cole improved to 1-0 on the season after pitching 3.2 innings, while striking out three batters.
 
Nick Jennings earned his second save of the season.
 
The Lions will return to action when they travel to Montgomery, Alabama to face Auburn Montgomery University, Friday April 7th. First pitch is scheduled for 6 P.M. (CST)/ 7:00 P.M. (EST)
