FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla.- The Saint Leo baseball team traveled to Fort Lauderdale, Florida to kick off their conference series against Nova Southeastern University. The Lions had an impressive night at the dish defeating the Sharks,16-6.

With the win the Lions improve to 16-13 on the season and 7-6 in the SSC.

Dariel Fregio earned the start on the mound for the Lions. Fregio tossed seven frames, recording eight strikeouts on 32 batters faced earning himself the win to improve to 5-2 on the year.

The Lions would strike first in the top of the third inning when
Eddie Niemann III would belt a two-run homer to left.
Â
Nova Southeastern would tie the game in the next half inning on a two run homer of their own.
Â
Niemann III continued to attack the Sharks at the dish, hitting a two run single through the left side in the top half of the fifth.
Cooper Miles would keep the rally alive to extend the Green & Gold lead with a sacrifice fly to right field. The Lions would continue to add to their lead in the fifth inning when Yazaek Nunez would reach safely on a fielding error in right field, which allowed Niemann III to make it home safely. The Lions would score their sixth run of the inning when Nunez would race home on a wild pitch.

The Sharks would get on the board in the bottom of the sixth inning to cut the Lions lead to three runs.

Saint Leo would answer back with seven unanswered runs combined in the eighth and ninth inning to take the first game of the series, 16-6.

Eddie Niemann III finished the night 4-for-4 with seven RBIs, three runs, a homerun, double, and walk.
Mike Wyman went 2-for-6 with two RBIs.
Mikey Scott would go 2-for-2 with four runs, four walks, and a stolen base.

The Lions will return to action to closeout their conference series against Nova Southeastern University in a doubleheader tomorrow. First pitch is scheduled for 12 P.M.
