Baseball Walks It Off In Series Finale Against Florida Southern

SAINT LEO, Fla- The Saint Leo baseball team wrapped up their series against Florida Southern, Sunday afternoon.  Both teams battled throughout the game to force extra innings. The Lions were able to walk off the series finale in the 11th inning to defeat the Mocs, 7-6.
 
With the win the Lions improve to 15-12 on the season and 6-6 in the SSC.
 
Evan Wolf got the start on the mound for the Lions in the series finale. Wolf tossed five and two thirds frames, striking out three of 27 batters faced.
 
Florida Southern attacked Wolf early jumping out to an early two run lead in the top of the first inning. The Mocs were able to add to their lead in the fourth inning adding three to lead, 5-0.
 
The Lions came charging in the bottom of the fourth inning. Mikey Scott kicked off the fourth with a lead off double to left field. Adrian Roa would drive home the first run for the Green & Gold with a one run single to right center. Zach Benson kept the rally alive with a single through the left side.
 
Adrian Roa got the Lions off to a great start in the bottom of the first inning with a solo shot to right field. The Lions added to their lead in the bottom of the third inning when Buck Anderson would hit a one run double to left. Roa would add another RBI to his stat line after driving in Anderson with a one run single to right center. Eddie Niemann III would connect on a fastball to drive a three run homer to left field, cutting the Mocs lead to 4-5.
 
Florida Southern would load the bases to end Wolf's afternoon in the top of the sixth inning. Andy Booth would come into the game with the bases loaded and two outs and escape the jam by forcing a ground out to second.
 
The Lions would put pressure on the Mocs in the bottom of the seventh inning.  With runners on first and second, Anderson sent a shot to short center. Wyman would try and score the tying run on Anderson's single but would get thrown out at home plate.
 
Once again, the Lions would put the Mocs on their heels in the bottom of eighth inning. Mikey Scott would hit his second lead off double of the game. Adrian Roa would move Scott to third with a single through the left side. Saint Leo would tie the game on a wild pitch as Scott was able to slide in safely at home. Mike Wyman would bring home the winning run with a one run single through the left side.
 
After struggling in the first half of the game, the Mocs started chipping away at the Lions lead starting in the fifth inning. Florida southern would steal the lead from Saint Leo in the top of the eighth inning when Safferwic would hit a go-ahead homer to left center.
 
Florida Southern would tie it up to force extra innings in the top of the ninth inning.
 
The Lions would walk it off in the bottom of the 11th when Ryan Robinson would with a walk-off single to right field to bring in Anderson.
 
Luke Lashutka earned the win on the hill for the Lions. Lashutka improved to 1-0 on the season.
 
The Lions will return to action at Thomas B. Southard Stadium when they welcome Eckerd College on Tuesday. First pitch is scheduled for 6 P.M.
