Baseball Falls In Series Opener Against Florida Southern, 7-10

SAINT LEO, Fla- The Saint Leo baseball team returned to Thomas B. Southard Stadium to face Florida Southern in a Sunshine State Conference weekend series. The Mocs took the series opener 10-7 over the Lions.
 
With the loss the Lions fall to 14-11 on the season and 5-5 in the SSC.
 
Dariel Fregio got the start on the hill for the Lions. The Graduate student from Wesley Chapel, Florida tossed four innings, allowing 10 hits, six runs while striking out four batters.
 
After the Mocs would jump out to an early one run lead in the first inning when Ryan Magdic would hit a solo homer to left.
 
The Lions answered back when Eddie Niemann III would drive in the first run of the game for Saint Leo with a sacrifice fly to deep center.
 
Niemann III would tie the game once again for the Lions in the bottom of the third inning with a one run double into the left field corner to score Buck Anderson. Luke Houin would give the Green & Gold their first lead of the day with an RBI single to left field, scoring Niemann III.
 
Florida Southern answered back in the top half of the fourth inning, scoring four runs.
 
The Lions put pressure on Florida Southern in the bottom of the sixth inning loading the bases with some small ball bunt singles. The Lions were able to score one run to cut the Mocs lead down to, 6-5.
 
Florida Southern would extend their lead to 8-5 in the top of the eighth.
 
Adrian Roa would kick off the eighth inning rally with a lead off single to right center. Brennan Reback would come in to pinch hit for Roa. The Lions would find themselves with juiced bases after a hit by pitch and walk.  Mikey Scott would hit a ball right at the pitcher forcing a throwing error, two runs came home on the play to cut the Mocs lead to one run.
 
The Lions will play the second game of their series against Florida Southern on Saturday. First pitch is scheduled for 1 P.M.
