Saint Leo Finishes off Embry-Riddle 12-1 for Series Sweep

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The Saint Leo University baseball team's bats were flying Sunday afternoon, displaying another dominant showing at the plate with a 12-1 win over Ember-Riddle (Fla.) to sweep the Eagles at Sliwa Stadium.

The win puts Saint Leo (14-10, 5-4 SSC) over .500 in Sunshine State Conference play for the first time this season.

The Lions tallied 16 hits on the day, while limiting the Eagles (11-12, 2-7 SSC) to five.  Junior outfielder Caleb Adams went 2-for-3 at the dish with two RBIs and two runs scored, while Senior infielder Buck Anderson hit 2-for-4 with four RBIs, also scoring two runs.

Senior Zach Benson finished 4-for-5 in the batter's box, recording one RBI and one run scored.

Junior pitcher Evan Wolf (3-1) pitched a full seven innings, giving up five hits and one run with one strikeout.

After two scoreless innings, the Green & Gold put up a pair of runs in the third inning to strike first before ERAU responded with one run scored in the fifth inning to cut the deficit to one run (2-1).

Saint Leo added four runs in the sixth, highlighted by Adams' and Anderson's 2RBI hits to push the lead 6-1.

Anderson would produce another 2RBI hit in the eighth inning, igniting a six-run inning that would put the Lions ahead by double digits with a 12-1 lead.

Senior right-handed pitcher Nick Jennings entered in the bottom of the eighth to pitch a 1-2-3 on the Eagles to solidify the victory and the sweep for Saint Leo.

The Lions are back at home March 24-26 to host a three-game conference series against Florida Southern.  First pitch at Thomas B. Southard Stadium is scheduled for Friday at 6 p.m.
