Baseball Sweeps Doubleheader at Embry-Riddle

SAINT LEO, Fla- The Saint Leo baseball team traveled to Daytona Beach, Florida for a three-game series against Embry-Riddle. The Lions and Eagles played a double header Friday due to inclement weather in the area. The Lions swept the double header against the Eagles winning, 12-1 and 14-0.
 
With the wins the Lions improve to 13-10 on the season and 4-4 in the SSC.
 
GAME ONE: SAINT LEO 12, EMBRY-RIDDLE 1
 
Dariel Fregio got the start on the mound to kick off the series for the Lions. The Graduate Student from Wesley Chapel, Florida tossed eight frames, striking out five of 26 batters faced while allowing two hits and one run. Fregio improved to 4-1 on the season with the win.
 
Zach Benson continued his strong presence at the plate for the Green & Gold hitting a two out triple to center. Cooper Miles would drive in the first run of the game for Saint Leo hitting the Lions second consecutive triple to center. Yazael Nunez would keep the rally alive, scoring Miles with a single to center.
 
The Lions attacked once again in the top of the third inning adding two runs to their lead. Mikey Scott would get the rally started with a one out single to right field. Adrian Roa would give the Lions runners at first and second after reaching on a fielding error. Mike Wyman would wear a pitch during the following at bat to juice the bases for Saint Leo. Eddie Niemann III would bring home the first run of the inning with a one run single to center field. Benson would drive home the fourth run of the game with a sacrifice fly.
 
The Eagles got on the board in the fourth inning when Timo Aracena hit a solo homer to right field.
 
Dylan Mass hit an RBI single to short to extend the Lions lead to 5-1 in the top of the sixth.
 
The Lions would add seven more runs to their lead in the top of the seventh and eighth inning.
 
Saint Leo took the first game of the series of the series, 12-1.
 
GAME TWO: SAINT LEO 14, EMBRY-RIDDLE 0
 
Saint Leo picked up where they left off from the first game, quickly jumping out to a two run lead to start the game.
 
Adrian Roa broke the scoring open in the top of the third inning hitting a two-run homer to right center.
 
The Lions came out and added extended their lead by five in the top of the fifth inning. Buck Anderson kicked off the inning with a lead off walk. Mikey Scott would advance Anderson to third with a single through the left side. Roa would continue to have a day at the plate with a two run single up the middle. Mike Wyman would score Roa with a single through the left side. Luke Houin would belt a two-run homer to left to give the Lions a 10 run lead. Giuseppe Arcuri would give the Lions a 14 run lead in the top of the ninth with a three run homer to left.
 
Jestin Jones got the start on the hill for the Lions, tossing five and a third innings of work. Jones allowed five hits and a walk while striking out three of 23 batters faced. Jones earned the win on the mound and has now improved to 2-1 on the year.
 
The Lions will close out their series against the Eagles on Sunday for the third game of their series. First pitch is yet to be determined.
