SAINT LEO, Fla. – The Saint Leo baseball team welcomed Rollins College to Thomas B. Southard Stadium Tuesday evening. Rollins would hold off Saint Leo, defeating the Lions 9-4.
Most of the scoring was done in the first inning by the Tars, putting up a four spot early in the ballgame. Rollins College would add one three more runs heading into the fourth inning.
The Lions would have a chance in the bottom of the second putting the visiting Tars on their heels with the bases loaded. Kieran Casey was able to escape the Jam when Yoyo Nunez would foul out to the catcher.
Bobby Sparling would get the Lions on the board in the bottom of the fourth inning with a one run single up the middle.
The Lions would attempt to come back in the bottom of the ninth.
Zach Benson would come in to pinch hit for
Bobby Sparling to lead off the bottom of the ninth. Benson would hit an infield single to third.
Ryan Robinson would replace
Mike Wyman and reach on a fielding error to give the Green & Gold runners at first and second.
Austin Affrunti would get the call to pinch hit for
Brennan Reback and take advantage of the opportunity, loading the bases with a single to second. Benson would score the first run of the inning on a passed ball.
Peyton Meredith would drive in the next run with a RBI single up the middle.
Cooper Miles would drive in
Austin Affrunti with a sacrifice fly to deep right field.
The Lions will be back in action at Thomas B. Southard Stadium Friday evening for a non-conference battle against Flagler College. First pitch is scheduled for 6 P.M.
