SAINT LEO, Fla. – The Saint Leo baseball team closed out their series against Alabama Huntsville, Saturday afternoon. Both teams battled each other the whole course of the rubber match. The Chargers were able to hold off the Lions to win, 14-11.
The Chargers got on the board first in the top of the second inning when Brennan Vasquez would drive a homer to right field.
The Lions immediately responded in the bottom half of the second to steal the lead. Eddie Niemann would get the Green & Gold on the board with an RBI single to left field.
Cooper Miles would then drive in the go-ahead run, flying out to deep center field to score
Brennan Reback.
J Lindsey would give the Chargers the lead in the fourth with a two run homer to right field.
Mike Wymann would give the Green & Gold some juice kicking off the bottom of the fourth with a double down the left field line. Reback would cut the Huntsville lead to one, driving in Wyman with an RBI single to right. After the Lions would load the bases,
Mikey Scott would drive in two runs with a two run double to left center.
Buck Anderson would keep the rally alive driving in the fourth run of the inning with a single to left center.
Yazael Nunez would bring Anderson home with an RBI single to right.
The Chargers wouldn't back down tying the game in the top of the fifth. The Lions immediately answered back with a two run lead heading into the sixth.
Jackson Lindsey would hit a grand slam in the eighth to ultimately give Alabama Huntsville the lead in the rubber match.
Bobby Sparling would attempt to give the Lions more life in the bottom of the eighth driving in Anderson with a deep fly to right field.
Reback had an impressive day finishing 2-for-3 with three runs, two walks, a double and an RBI. Guiseppe Arcuri finished the afternoon 2-for-5 with two RBIs, and a double. Niemann finished 2-for-5 with one run and an RBI.
The Lions will be back in action at Thomas B. Southard Stadium Tuesday evening where they will look to bounce back against conference opponent Rollins College. First pitch is scheduled for 6 P.M.
