SAINT LEO, Fla – The Lions' strike first but ultimately draw 1-1 versus Florida Southern.
Â
The Lions started off strong and for a second thought they had taken the lead when
Edoardo Degl'Innocenti struck a beautiful free kick into the top corner. The referee blew the whistle and called it back due to a foul before the shot was taken.
Â
The Lions did well to defend the rest of the half as the Mocs out shot Saint Leo 8-4 in the first half.
Â
The Green & Gold went into halftime with all the momentum after keeping the Mocs' attack frustrated due to amazing saves by
Ricardo Ceballos.
Â
Within the first ten minutes of the half, the Lions struck gold thanks to an own goal by a Mocs' defender that bounced into their own net.
Â
The Mocs had their first real chance of tying the game up when they stepped up to the penalty spot after the Lions conceded a foul inside the box. Ceballos stepped up in a big way once again making a diving save to his right.
Â
The Lions seemed to have control of the game until about seven minutes remaining when Dylan Lowther stepped up for Florida Southern and found the back of the net to tie things up in the dying minutes.
Â
Neither team could find the winner as the Lions and Mocs finished the game tied at 1-1.
Â
The Lions are next in action on the road Saturday, October 7th as they head to Miami Shores for a Sunshine State Conference matchup versus Barry University. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00pm.
