SAINT LEO, Fla. – The Saint Leo University Men's basketball team found its stride Tuesday night, as the Lions defeated Paine College 98-53 at the Marion Bowman Activities Center.
Saint Leo (16-8, 7-6 SSC) finished the night shooting 59.4% from the field and 51.9% from beyond the arch. Sophomore guard
Grant Disken led all scorers with 16 points. Redshirt Sophomore guard
Jeremy Sanchez recorded 14 points, shooting 5-for-7 from the floor and a perfect 4-of-4 from the charity stripe, while tallying four assists and three steals.
Defensively, the Lions shut down Paine (6-12), limiting the team to under 30% from the field including under 21% long range. The Green & Gold forced 19 turnovers while making 13 steals against the Purple & Black.
The Lions made sure to put the contest to bed midway through the first half, highlighted by a 21-0 run that gave Saint Leo a 43-17 lead with 3:05 remaining in the first half.
In the second half, the Green & Gold continued to extend its lead, pushing the difference to as much as 49 points at the 2:53 mark to ultimately settle for the 98-53 win to finish its non-conference slate with a 9-2 record.
Saint Leo resumes conference play Saturday, as the team hosts Embry-Riddle (Fla.). Tipoff at the Marion Bowman Activities Center is scheduled for 6 p.m.
