A Mollinedo Miracle: Lone Goal Lifts Lions Over Royals

SAINT LEO, Fla. – The Saint Leo University Men's soccer team snapped a three-game skid Saturday night, as the lone goal scored by Senior Forward Alex Mollinedo proved to be all the Lions needed to prevail in a 1-0 win over the Warner Royals at Saint Leo University Soccer Field.

The Green & Gold (5-3, 0-2 SSC) experienced a revival in its attack, posting its second-highest shot total of the season (20).  Junior Goalkeeper Joao Kozlowski picked up his first win of the 2022 season, notching three saves in the match.  Graduate Forward Miguel Fernandez and Sophomore Forward Luca Tiozzo led all players with four shots apiece.

While Saint Leo continued to generate chances, Warner Goalkeeper Woodlerson Cyrius denied the Green & Gold time and time again, recording nine saves on the night.  Then, in the 87th minute, a cross from Fernandez was headed out by the Royals' backline before the ball landed mid-air on Mollinedo's boot to fire in the game-winning goal in the right side of the net.

"Credit to Warner tonight for extremely hard and making it difficult for us" said Head Coach Brett Parker after the game.  "They defended well and their goalkeeper {Cyrius} made some very good saves.  Our guys were persistent and finally got the goal late, which is soccer sometimes."
